The Division of Animal Control protects the health and safety of the Fairbanks North Star Borough by promoting responsible pet ownership.

We are here to ensure the safety and well-being of all Borough residents through proactive education and enforcement and to set the standard for outstanding animal care practices.

Animal Control Statistics for 2023:


We accepted 3,086 animals into care

We reunited 550 lost pets with their families

We placed 1,570 pets into new homes

We responded to 3,789 calls from the community

We sent 202 animals to foster families prior to adoption

Our shelter veterinary team spayed & neutered 619 dogs & cats

Our live release rate for all animals was 85%
